Verizon is located in Garden City Long Island and provide a network of communications to the millions of customers they serve at this facility.
This project was implemented to increase system reliability and provide critical power supply during peak demand.
During the summer 3.0 MW is used for peak shaving. Together the plants clean converted diesel engine to bi-fuel works in parallel with five (5) UTC fuel cells. The fuel cells convert C2H6 found in natural gas to clean electric power.
Hot water is recovered for the waste heat to supply two (2) 70 ton absorption chillers and one (1) steam generator.
