National Grid Helps Molloy College with New Solar Energy System

National Grid Energy Management (NGEM) recently commissioned Molloy College’s first Solar Electric Energy System. The system is located on the college’s Rockville Centre campus in the William J. Casey building.

John Guidone, National Grid’s Vice President, expects the system to produce over 11,808 kwh of electric energy by the end of the year.  With over 100 KW of renewable solar installation experience, the National Grid solar power team recommended Molloy install 48 Sharp 216-watt panels totaling 10.368 KW.  Within the first week the new solar system produced 438 kwh, reducing the Town’s carbon footprint by 307 kg. “Helping to reduce our environment’s green house gases is a priority for National Grid,” said Mr. Guidone, “and this is just one stepping stone.”

To support this project and use of renewable resources, funding from both (NGEM) and the Village of Rockville Centre was provided to Molloy.   NGEM contributed $35,000 in solar power equipment, while the Village of Rockville Centre provided $45,000 to support the project. Paul Pallas, Deputy Administrator of the Village of Rockville Centre and Jim Multari, Director of Facilities at Molloy, embraced the project from the very beginning as part of the Village’s renewable energy profile. “We enthusiastically support this progressive use of solar electricity,” said Mr. Pallas. “We look forward to evaluating the data from this installation to determine its feasibility for other applications in the Village.”  “We truly appreciate all the support provided by National Grid and the Village of Rockville Centre,” added Jim Multari.

National Grid, Molloy, and the Village of Rockville Centre invite the Long Island business community to join us March 12, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. for a site walk-thru at the College’s William Casey building. Following the walk-thru, attendees may also join Molloy at their conference, “”The Green Economy: Promise and Potential,” from 1:00 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. For more information on the conference, call 516-678-5000, x6622.
